How to Use Light Scout in PoseOverlay

April 27, 20265 min readFeature Guide

Bad lighting ruins good poses. Light Scout analyzes your camera feed in real time and tells you where the light is coming from — front, side, or back. It reads brightness levels and gives you a plain-English recommendation: "Move left for better light" or "You're in a well-lit sweet spot."

What Light Scout Does

Light Scout samples brightness values across different regions of your camera frame. By comparing the brightness on the left vs. right and top vs. bottom, it determines the primary lighting direction. It then displays this as a simple overlay with an arrow or icon showing where the light is strongest.

How to Use It

Step 1
Activate Light Scout
Open the Feature Hub (⚡) and tap 💡 Light Scout. A lighting analysis overlay appears on your camera feed.
Step 2
Read the lighting direction
Light Scout shows you where the strongest light source is. An indicator shows brightness levels and direction — front light, side light, or back light.
Step 3
Reposition for better light
Turn or move until Light Scout shows favorable lighting. For most poses, front light (facing the light source) is most flattering. Side light adds drama for editorial shots.

Reading the Output

Front light — light is hitting your face directly. Best for selfies, headshots, and most solo poses. Side light — dramatic, adds depth and shadow. Great for fitness, editorial, and portrait poses. Back light — light behind you creates silhouettes or rim lighting. Artistic but challenging. Tap your face on screen to expose for it.

Lighting Tips

Golden hour is the cheat code
The hour after sunrise and before sunset provides warm, soft, directional light that's flattering from every angle. Light Scout will show strong side or front light during these times.
Avoid overhead noon light
Direct overhead sun creates harsh shadows under your eyes and nose. If you must shoot at noon, find open shade — Light Scout will confirm when you're in a better position.
