What Hand Guide Does

Hand Guide is a contextual tip system. When you select a pose and activate Hand Guide, it displays a specific hand placement instruction for that exact pose. Not generic advice — tailored guidance that changes with every pose.

All 108 poses in PoseOverlay have a custom HAND_TIPS entry. The tips cover finger position, grip pressure, wrist angle, and what to do with the free hand.

Example Tips

"Power Stance" — Both hands on hips, thumbs back, fingers forward. Press lightly, don't grip. "The Natural" — Slide hand in pocket to second knuckle. Free hand: curl fingers slightly, don't clench. "Hair Sweep" — Run fingers through hair lightly, don't grab. Spread fingers for an airy look.

Every tip is this specific. No vague "just relax your hands" — you get exactly where each finger goes.

General Hand Rules

Never fully clench your fists
Unless you're doing a Victory Flex or power pose, keep a slight curl to your fingers. Closed fists read as tension and aggression in photos.
Show the side of your hand, not the back
The back of your hand looks wide and flat. Turn it slightly so the camera sees the edge — it looks more elegant and slender.
When in doubt, hold a prop
A coffee cup, sunglasses, book, or even your phone gives your hands a purpose. Props eliminate the "what do I do with my hands" problem entirely.
